Harlem Hospital Center Modernization Project – New Patient Pavilion:
McKissack was part of the team that provided construction management services in support of the new Patient Pavilion project, which was part of Harlem Hospital’s Major Modernization Program. The New Patient Pavilion is a 150,000 SF addition to the Harlem Hospital Center and includes a new Emergency Department, state-of-the-art critical care and diagnostic units, and new fully-equipped operating rooms. The modernization connects the existing Martin Luther King, Jr. Pavilion and the new Patient Pavilion, the parking garage, and EMS Stations, thus creating one large healthcare complex for the Harlem community. The historic murals created during the Harlem Renaissance in the WPA-era 1930s at Harlem Hospital were preserved and permanently reinstalled into the patient pavilion. McKissack established the Office of Community Employment Program for local community worker involvement on the construction of this multi-phase project.
Through the OCE, McKissack provided M/W/LBE consulting services to attract, assist and facilitate minority, women and local business enterprises as well as community residents seeking construction-related employment in all phases of the project.
