BAM Park Reconstruction:
McKissack provided pre-construction and construction management services to Downtown Brooklyn Partnership (DBP) for the reconstruction of BAM Park. The property is owned by the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD). DBP has been authorized by HPD to oversee the design and reconstruction of the Park. The 14,000-square-foot triangular park, located across from the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) and bordered by Fulton Street, Lafayette Avenue, and St. Felix Place. The project included preserving several existing trees in the park while adding new plantings, pathways, and seating areas including a raised seating section at the corner of Fulton and Lafayette. Accessibility to the public space was improved by removing the high fence surrounding the perimeter of the park and repairing the sidewalks. An existing structurally unsound gazebo was removed. McKissack provided pre-construction services, which included working with the project’s designers on feasibility, cost estimation and value engineering. At the conclusion of pre-construction and upon production of a final drawing set by the designer, McKissack produced a final cost estimate. McKissack managed the project during construction, providing field supervision of the general contractor and other trades.
